Notes:

  • SDN operates on UTC time.  Be sure to use UTC when givin= g the time at the close of the net, and when specifying dates in your net reports.
  • The net must run a minimum of five minutes.
  • Stations checking in to the net are not req= uired to take traffic.  All participation in NTS, like all other aspects of the Amateur Radio Serv= ice, is voluntary and optional.
  • If a station fails to identify at an approp= riate point during the net [e.g. when returning control to the NCS station] provide a gentle reminder to do so.&n= bsp; There is no special exemption from the legal station identifica= tion requirements when operating on a directed net.  Remember to set a good exampl= e by properly identifying yourself.  Be sure to follow correct net procedures in order to allow stat= ions to properly identify after any net transaction, especially when you are one of the parties in that transaction.
  • Make every reasonable effort to start the n= et on time.  Some stations chec= king in may have other NTS or personal obligations as early as 10PM.   Please be courteous of everyone’s time.  I= f any station checks in as liaison to “NYS” in particular, be su= re to call them first to handle any outbound traffic, and allow them to secure before 10PM to make the net on time.
  • All NCS stations should be familiar with pr= oper net operations, as detailed in the NTS Methods, Practices, and Guidelines (NTS MPG) published by the ARRL.  It is available for free at t= his address (click on either “PDF View” or “MS Word View” near the top):  http://www.arrl.org/FandES/field/nts-mpg/
